When planning for this issue of the Globus Consortium Journal, the goal was to feature Globus and Grid computing in various vertical markets. As we progressed there were some other items we wanted to feature so this issue became a bit of a mash up.

With the GlobusWORLD / GridWorld event last month we wanted to highlight some of what we thought were the most significant press releases and news articles that were posted in conjunction with this event. Derrick Harris and the folks at GRIDtoday did a great job of keeping us all up to date during that event. Much of what I have linked to is from their fine articles.

And speaking of GRIDtoday, we are reprinting Wolfgang Gentzsch's recent article that first appeared in GRIDtoday that highlighted lessons learned and recommendations based on some early Globus Grid deployments.

And of course we have three articles on Grid and their use in various vertical markets. All three feature Grid experts that have intimate experience with the Globus toolkit. We cover the bio-sciences, semiconductor, and aerospace vertical markets, all of which have been earlier adopters of Grid technology although perhaps not as widely lauded as the financial services market.
